Christmas 2012

This is what the dining room looked like on Dec 22 when we had my father over for an early Christmas dinner.  John and I had spent most of the week getting the house cleaned up and looking good.

But, all good things must end and the neat, clean house vanished on Dec 23 when we realized that the spot that kept coming back on the carpet was not a cat or dog doing their business but a leak somewhere behind a wall.  We had to clear off a bookcase which resulted in 15 boxes stacked in the dining room against the windows. We had to move chairs (8) out of the way so John could start tearing up the carpet. I also had to fold down the sides on the dining table, too. We were able to move the base of the bookcase closer to the wall, but not up against it. The top part is now sitting on the buffet.

The carpet isn't that big a loss as its as old as the house which will be 50 this year. However now we have a 2 1/2 foot wide by 15+ feet long area covered in linoleum and the rest in carpeting.  I am also concerned at how black the wood is from the water damage and praying it's not mold.

We think we finally figured out about where the leak is but can't get it fixed until after the New Year.  Until then, it's hand wash the dishes and don't use either the dishwasher or the disposer.  I did manage to wash a small load of clothes without it leaking.
