Touring London Part 3 - St. Paul's Cathedral, cont.
Okay, this is the "official" layout for St. Paul's Cathedral. If the picture is big enough, you'll notice three stars on the dome on both sides. These stars are placed on the walk-ways located on the dome. Gives you a better idea of what the volunteers were standing on to defend the dome against the incendiary bombs the Germans were dropping on it.
The story of the famous photograph on the right can be read here.
There are more than 1,000 steps from the Nave (golden picture on the right page) to the top walkway.
On the left, the small picture is of the cloister and chapter house that was the original cathedral designed by William Ramsay in 1332 and which was destroyed in the Great London Fire of 1666. The current cathedral was designed by Christopher Wren.
Under the small picture is the statue of St.Paul holding a cross. This is supposed to be in the place where the original cross of St. Paul stood.
Immediately to the right of the dome is a small shrine seen across the street from the back side of the dome. Beneath that is the memorial/tomb of Lord Admiral Nelson.
On the right hand side first is the nave. Beneath that looking back at the grounds of the cathedral - I didn't have enough room to get the tower above it. To the right of the postcard is a picture of a squirrel. When we first come up to the statue of St. Paul's cross there were people feeding several squirrels. Later when we came back there was just this one. Below that is a Christmas tree across a street from the cathedral.
Supplies used: DYY Template Builder by Lynne-Marie at the Lily Pad digital scrap shop. The borders are photoshop borders by BSilvia.
