Dog Jog 2013

Yesterday, Saturday, April 27, 2013, John and I participated in the annual Dog Jog.  We don't jog (I may jiggle and jostle a little, but I don't jog) so we did the dog walk.  The Jog was a timed race around Meadow Lane and Rover Blvd starting and ending at Chamisa School.  The walk was a two mile walk from Chamisa on Meadow Lane to Bryce, up Bryce to Rover and back to Chamisa.  the Jog was 3.1 miles and the walk 2 miles.

This was my first time to go in the event, John's second.

We got to the school a little after 8:30, grabbed our packets and waited for the race/walk to start at 9.

Included in John's packet was a bandana for the dog and a t-shirt.  My packet didn't have a bandana since I wasn't walking a dog but I did get the t-shirt.

We met some friends we've seen around White Rock and I met someone I used to work with along with his wife.  They both see John fairly regularly because he frequently (at least twice a week) walks past their house on his way up to State Road 4.

Nine o'clock approached and we all started meandering to the start/finish line.  They lined up the joggers first so they wouldn't be hampered by all the walkers.  As soon as they were off we were told to go.

Yes, I shot this picture into the sun. I have no idea who they are or what their dog's names are, just a few of the 200-400+ people who participated this year.

When we got down to the turn off to Overlook Park a police car came up behind us and, on the loud speaker, told us to move over to the sidewalk as the street wasn't closed for the event.

As a result of making a side-trip to the baseball fields, I was just about the last of the walkers to finish.  There was one woman with an elderly dog and behind her another woman with a young kid and a 4-month old shelter dog (who didn't walk in a straight line - too many fascinating smells) who came in considerably later.

When I met up with John again at the school, I had walked 8300 steps.  By the end of the day (we still had to do our weekly grocery run) I had 11,096 steps.  I usually only manage 3000-5000 steps a day. Eventually I hope to consistently get over 10k.

Yes, my legs hurt then and still do now.

But I was down 2 pounds this morning.
